What is that?

This week, we have been enjoying the Mussoorie International Writers' Festival which is being held on Woodstock's campus. While we were listening to a poetry recital outside after school, we noticed a very odd looking creature flying around the flowers in front of us. Dave had no idea what it was and Beth couldn't tell if it was a hummingbird or a moth. After a bit of research on the internet, we determined that it was a Macroglossum stellatarum, or Hummingbird Hawk-moth .

This creature looks like a small hummingbird with an insect's proboscis . Yet another one of the interesting forms of wildlife that we have here in India.

Cool. It's been so fun to travel along with you! Thanks for sharing.

Have you heard Caedmon Call's album "Share the Well?" The songs are inspired by time spent in India and Ecuador--you've probably heard it. My kids love the "Dalit Hymn" . . . it has a chorus: (Sub kooch ho sak-ee dey) . The kids request the song by saying, "Can you play the 'suck a day day' song mom?" Too funny.
