In the spirit of parties at the end of the school year, we decided to have one with our grade six students. After having "regular" classes this morning, we got all the kids together for a special lunch this afternoon. After lunch we had a "Sixth Grade Olympics" to see if they'd learned any practical skills over the course of the year. First, Beth explained a scavenger hunt to see if they could find important places on campus.
This scavenger hunt may or may not have been an excuse to tire the kids out, but they had fun regardless. After the scavenger hunt, we had a game to see if the students could handle books carefully, followed by one that assessed their ability to get dressed in the morning.
It seems like the end of the school year is comprised entirely of grading and parties. We like to think that we've earned the parties.
